If you have never had a bedroom nightstand, you might wonder why one would pay five or six hundred dollars for a pair of night stands? Well the answer is fairly simple.
Do you read at night? Do you like to keep a glass of water beside the bed at night. How about a clock, an alarm, a box of tissue paper or some cough drops. How about all those nighttime reading books?
You are probably getting the picture. A bedroom nightstand is probably one of the more functional pieces of furniture in our house. They serve many purposes.
And that's what you need to consider before making your buying decision.
First of all consider how much room you have. If the night tables are two wide they might make the room feel cramped. The nightstands shouldn't take over the room. You should think of them as accessories for the bed.
Consider whether you would like to store items in them. Things like books, cough drops, tissue, etc. If that is the case you would definitely want a drawer and probably a shelf or two. If you are going to be storing books, especially hard cover books, you should make sure that the stand is sturdy enough to support the weight.
You are also probably going to want to place a lamp on the night stand. If you are going to use the lamp to read by, make sure that you have enough height. If the table is too low, then the lamp will also probably be too low and not throw enough light for reading.
Then finally consider the design. It ideally will match the style of decor of the rest of the bedroom. A bamboo nightstand might not match very well with an oak sleigh bed. Of course, this is all a matter of taste, but it is something that you should certainly pay attention to.
All in all, there are a great number of considerations to consider before purchasing a nightstand. And by now you probably realize that a bedroom nightstand is a key piece of furniture and something that every bedroom deserves.
